Citrus Elementary School has been an AVID school since 2017. Here our students learn strategies that help prepare them for middle school and high school. As they advance throughout the school system, and continue with AVID schooling, it is with hope that they will be prepared for college and career success.  Citrus Elementary provides every single student with school supplies and a daily school planner to help keep them on track with their coursework. AVID Elementary students take structured notes and answer and ask high-level questions that go beyond routine answers.

The strong college-going culture on an AVID Elementary campus encourages students to think about their college and career plans. Schools cover their walls with college pennants and banners, and educators speak about their college experiences. College and careers are no longer foreign concepts, and teachers provide the academic foundation students need to be on a path for college and career success. AVID Elementary closes the opportunity gap before it begins.

The key features of AVID practices are college readiness, WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) strategies, support for ALL students, and professional development for teachers who can then implement the proper AVID strategies in their classrooms.

As of 2024, Citrus Elementary was selected to be a showcase elementary school for AVID. This means that as other elementary schools start to implement AVID at their school sites, they can use our school as a model. This is a huge recognition so congratulations to our Citrus Suns!
